Allowing oneself to recharge mentally and physically is very important for creatives and that is exactly what Monique English did.
You may have noticed that award-winning artist Monique English had stepped away from the music scene for a while until yesterday. Her new single titled Red debuted on 99FM and it is the first of her releases since two years ago. Speaking to unwrap.online, Monique English says that she never meant to step back from music however she was not in a space to do her job.
“My last release was in late 2017 when I released Does She Know. It was never my intention to take a break from music. It just happened. I couldn’t write or compose anything. The creative juices just weren’t there. Mentally and emotionally, it was draining and this was also influenced by outside factors. I had to pull my mindset and myself together, and I finally did,” she says.
Monique decided to return with Red saying it is a color that expresses how she feels at the moment.
“You know how love is supposed to symbolically be the color red? Especially when it’s full. That’s how I feel at the moment and that’s why I wrote it,” she says.
The song was written by Monique English and produced by ESB music in Walvis Bay. According to the starlet, he is such a joy to work with and she will work with him again.
“So far we’ve worked on two songs, where I feature Space the Don on the second one. Now, this boy has immense talent. I’m still contemplating on whether I wanna release it as a single or just release it with the album,” she concluded.
