From the most awkward to the deep and funny acceptance speeches.
Last night at the Dome, the most prestigious entertainment awards in Namibia concluded with many working away as winners. There was a part that was rather interesting when the winners got on the stage to accept their awards that we all looked forward to. For some, it seemed as if they knew their fate for the night and prepared great, moving speeches whilst others were perhaps taken aback by the overwhelming moment and just said ‘peri nawa’. In no particular order, here are some of the best, awkward and funny speeches of the night.
DJ Chronic
The DJ who won the best producer took the opportunity to share his life story of how music became a part of it and how up and coming producers can learn from him. The producer said his journey has not been easy nor simple but it is worth taking as the fruits of the labour are worth it.
Lize Ehlers
The artist of the year used the platform to drive the women empowerment movement once again. Lize who dedicated her wins to women starting with her daughter said that there should be nothing stopping them from taking on the world and being on top of it either.
Exit
The Male Artist of the Year and Best Kwaito Artist took to stage full of jokes, happiness, and apologies. Exit went in his vernacular asking for forgiveness kaakulunhu for all the wrongs he has done since his early days in the game.
Gazza
If you had not received a personal shout out from Gazza last night, you should reconsider your situationship with him. The Chelete hitmaker and Best Song of the Year winner took the opportunity to halla at his partners for believing his vision and entrusting their brands in his hands. The Best Afropop further brought in the real chat saying that the public should criticize the NAMAs to help them and not just run their mouths or keyboard fingers. He also urged men to divert their anger into activities instead of taking it out on women. We stan!
Swart Baster
Swart Baster won his first NAMAs award last night and says that God’s timing is indeed the best as he has applied for NAMAs over the years but has not won anything. That did not probe him to give up, however.
The NAMAs have been made possible by its key stakeholders including Air Namibia who ensure that the Namibian spirit is carried not only through transportation but in entertainment too.
