The much-awaited movie, ‘Life’, has finally graced the screen, presenting a poignant tale that delves into the struggles of a young couple grappling with life’s harsh realities.
Premiering in Windhoek last Friday, the film chronicles the journey of a couple whose story tragically unfolds due to a series of unfortunate decisions and the pervasive influence of negative surroundings.
According to Bloss Amutenya, the director, the film aims to provoke meaningful change in the lives of Namibians. He emphasizes, “We want people to actually comment and say ‘oh, let me do something that ‘Life’, the movie, has taught me’. The movie is made from the heart. It’s actually part of my experience where I’ve seen an unalive body. We should remember everyone is going through life.”
Amutenya reveals plans to showcase ‘Life’ not only in Windhoek but also in Swakopmund, Keetmanshoop, and Ongwediva. However, he expresses the need for sponsorship funding to extend screenings to the eastern regions.
The film’s choice of location, specifically in Windhoek’s Havana area, lends authenticity to the narrative while portraying the vibrant yet challenging circumstances of Namibia’s capital.
Featuring emerging local talents like TopCheri (Monica Pinehas), Mabuzza, and Carter Hartz, the film resonates deeply with its audience. Pinehas, who portrays a mother in the film, hopes that everyone gets an opportunity to witness its portrayal of real-life situations and challenges.

Mabuzza, also known as Fillemon Stephanus, underscores the film’s relevance, stating, “It shows us how to handle our emotions and relationships between couples when things go left.”
Rebecca Malakia, spokesperson for the Namibia Film Commission, expresses pride in funding the production, highlighting its focus on pivotal societal issues. She emphasizes the importance of disseminating such narratives to address prevalent issues like gender-based violence.
‘Life’ secured funding in 2022 after being pitched to the executive directors of Optimistic Pictures Studios in 2021. Its approval stemmed from its potential to catalyze significant societal impact, following rigorous evaluation.
