The Windhoek Fashion Week, on the cusp of its fifth anniversary, got a shot in the arm of N$3.5 million sponsorship from the Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) this week.
The sponsorship will last for the next three years and subject to renewal with all things being equal being effective as of 1 October.
Commenting on the partnership Fashion enthusiast Luis Munana said the sponsorship will go a long way.
“We also want to produce local garments for export to all the other African countries. Why should we continue to import clothes when we have local designers that can produce. My challenge is that by the time next year everyone will be wearing local designs, we have the capacity and ability to do it, ” Munana said.
Following the sponsorship, the fashion week has since changed its name to MTC Windhoek Fashion Week.
In the same vein, MTC’s Chief Human Capital Manager Tim Ekandjo also added that they have set aside a N$3.2million kitty for the 081Every1MusicFest that launched two years ago.
