Tala Namibia Film Festival set for August 2023

The Tala Namibia Film Festival, set to take place in August of this year, is gearing up to showcase the best of Namibian cinema. The festival, which will stream Namibian films online and display them across the country, is set to be a highlight of the year for film lovers.

Two of Namibia’s top filmmakers, Joel Haikali and Sophie Haikali, recently met with Emma Theofelus, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, to discuss the upcoming festival. During their meeting, the filmmakers pointed out the challenges they are facing, including slow network connections and high data costs.

Despite these obstacles, the filmmakers are determined to make the festival a success and have reached out to mobile operators for partnerships to help address these challenges.

Theofelus, who expressed the support of the Ministry through the Namibia Film Commission, mentioned that the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) is working on a plan to reduce data costs and emphasized the need for diversity in local content, allowing consumers to enjoy a wider variety of Namibian films.

Keep an eye out for updates and get ready to be transported to the world of Namibian cinema this August!
