MTC Windhoek Fashion Week 2024 kicked off with an electrifying start, as the runway was graced by the striking Damara Horokhoes collection in Windhoek. The opening night was a celebration of Namibian heritage, featuring stunning prints, detailed patches, and traditional patterns that captured the essence of the Damara Horokhoes culture.
Alvaro Mukoroli, the director of MTC Windhoek Fashion Week, described the showcase as “a vibrant tribute to Namibian culture, a true reflection of our heritage.” He expressed pride in the event’s success, stating, “We are overjoyed to have the Honourable Minister in the Presidency, Christine ǁHoebes, join us for this special opening night.”

Attendee Rosy #Eixas spoke passionately about preserving the authenticity of the Damara Horokhoes dress, stating, “We want to keep it true to its origins, not let it fade into trends. It’s about honoring its original form.”

She emphasized the delicate balance between tradition and innovation in dressmaking, acknowledging the challenge of modernizing the dress without losing its cultural significance. “It’s about teaching the younger generation the importance of maintaining the dress in its authentic style,” she said.

With MTC WFW running until November 9th, the event promises a dynamic lineup of international designers, including KUKE CARPAE YOUR SOUL from South Africa, Lusanda Couture from Angola, and Nkanda Yatu from Zambia, alongside an impressive collection of Namibian talent.
