Why Should Namibian Youth Care?
Diabetes and hypertension are often seen as diseases that affect older people, but the reality is that young people, including Namibian youth, are increasingly at risk. These are lifestyle diseases, meaning our everyday habits can increase or decrease our chances of developing them. For example, poor diet, lack of exercise, and excessive stress are major contributors.
Diabetes occurs when your body can’t properly use or produce insulin, causing high blood sugar. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, puts extra strain on your heart and blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. These conditions are silent killers—many people don’t know they have them until it’s too late.
For young Namibians, this means the lifestyle choices you make today matter. The good news is that prevention is possible. Small changes like eating healthier, staying active, and reducing stress can help you avoid these diseases. It’s about creating a future where you’re in control of your health, not reactive to it.
