The NAMAs return to Swakopmund in 2023

The Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) show was always revered as the biggest award ceremony in Namibia and one of the flashiest on the continent. It was established in 2011 by MTC Namibia and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and has always been the highlight event of the year.

The show honored musicians in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the music industry and artists received sponsorships, endorsement deals and cash prizes.

Following the end of the road for the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) in 2020, organisers of the show told unWrap.online this week that the Namas are finally back with a bang after two years’ hiatus.

The event, which is now back on the social calendar and will be held in the coastal town of Swakopmund, was confirmed by the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). Acting Chief Commercial Officer at NBC Nico Mwiya said that the broadcaster seeks to plough back into the industry with not only cash prizes set out for the winners but also providing the platform for new and old artists to showcase their art and talents with the rest of the country.

“The broadcaster is currently in the planning phase of the awards ceremony. The planning phase looks at setting up the budget as well as looking for key strategic partners willing to celebrate and enhance the local music in the country. NBC will be making the announcement to the public very soon.

“As we all know, Covid-19 negatively affected many industries and local artists, and the music industry was not spared during that time. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the broadcaster seeks to plough back into the industry with not only cash prizes set out for the winners but also providing the platform for new and old artists alike to showcase their art and talents with the rest of the country,” he said.

Mwiya furthermore elaborated that the dates are yet to be confirmed and will be announced across NBC multimedia platforms inclusive of television, radio, and digital media.

“For now, the team has announced the venue, so the public at large will be making their way to the coastal town of Swakopmund and can look forward to a spectacular event at the MTC Dome! The event is earmarked and noted on the NBC’s marketing activity calendar,” he explained.

He added that, “the agreement with the biggest and only high-performance centre in Namibia is currently set in place for the next five years, making the venue home to the Miss Namibia pageant for the next five years.
