South African rapper, AKA, was tragically shot and killed outside a restaurant in Durban, South Africa. AKA, whose real name is Kiernan Forbes, was well-known in Namibia, having performed there on multiple occasions and even winning the Namibian Annual Music Awards Pan African artist of the year award in 2019.
The news of his death shocked many Namibian celebrities and artists.Gazza, a well-known Namibian personality, expressed his grief on Twitter, saying that he had lost all interest in South Africa and could only go there if he had to.
Other Namibian celebrities, such as King Tee Dee, Kp Illest, Mega, DJ Alba, and many others, also shared their condolences on social media.AKA had collaborated with some big Namibian names on the song ‘Soek Soek’, which has since garnered over a million views on YouTube and remains a popular party anthem.
Tributes have also been paid by Kadhila Amoomo, who shared his condolences for the loss of the industry giant. AKA’s parents, Tony and Lynn Forbes, released a statement expressing their extreme sadness at the loss of their son.
Six hours before his death, AKA had tweeted about his upcoming album, ‘Mass Country’, which was set to be released later that month. His death is a stark reminder of South Africa’s ongoing issues with gun violence.
