Rock the Boat resumes with Yeezir

Now still in it’s second season the Rock the Boat live music show has returned with the ever so talented singer and songwriter Yeezir headlining their fourth episode.

Although the production of the show is still shot on the mighty Kavango river, the producers launched and screened this episode in Windhoek.

According to Ngandu Festival spokesperson Steven Haingura, this was a deliberate attempt at doing things differently.

“The plan is to roll out the rest of the episodes for season two. We are trying to do something different that’s why we launched the episode this way. And plan to roll out the rest of the season two episodes while we prepare for season three because we do t want to compromise on quality,” Haingura said.

He added that the Kavango river won’t be the only place that they will shoot episodes for the show and that it may well change in the future as they are looking at shooting it on the Atlantic Ocean one day.

Furthermore the screening was attended by the who’s who of the creative industry including comedian and self proclaimed Fresh Prince of Okakarara, Mark Kariahua who also gave his two cents on the show.

“Very professionally filmed. I guess that everything is amazing you can see all the colours together perfectly, but the biggest highlight of the night is definitely the artist Yeezir. He seems to be a humble guy which always seems to be good,” Kariahua said.

The man if the moment and ‘Pretty Vibes’ hit maker Yeezir was evidently happy and glad to see that his music is being received well and says that there is more to come this year.

“You will be hearing music you have never heard before because I feel like I have a different style from everybody else in Namibia. I used to be criticized for it but now people love it. So I’ll be going in my own direction. Expect a lot of music videos and international collabs,” he said.

He added that he is here to change the perception and view that Namibian artists cannot make it on the international scene.

“It’s sad, because parents don’t support their kids dreams because they don’t see the potential of making it internationally and I’m here to change that by just being me,”

Yeezir also said that support from veterans in the industry is scarce but he says that one should work hard to get noticed.

“Showcase yourself more if you want to make it and it’s hard and sad that alot of big players in the industry don’t give chances to the young ones. I try and help out the other upcoming artists and give them my honest opinion about their music because not everyone is cut out to be an artist. I like to stay humble,” he said.

He ended by adding that upcoming artists who want to get serious about their talent should find a team they trust.

“You should find somebody that you trust. You need somebody that is there for you. My team helps me with everything so id advice anyone to get a team,” he said.
